Bearing Input

Bearings are entered in the Lines grid in the 'Parcel Properties' dialogue box.
They can be input either as a full value in the form DDDMMSS, or with a decimal point after the degrees in the form DDD.MMSS or DD.MMSS.

If there is no decimal point, and the number of digits is less than 4, it is assumed that the bearing is in whole degrees.
If a decimal point is included, it is assumed that the numbers to the right of the decimal point are minutes and seconds of arc.

Example:
A bearing of 12 degrees 15 minutes and 10 seconds can either be entered as 0121510 or as 12.1510.
This bearing is then immediately displayed as 12°15'10".

QUADRANT BEARINGS
If quadrant bearings are used then these can be entered as they appear on the plan.
They are entered in the same manner as whole circle bearings but with their alpha characters added.
To display bearings in Quadrant mode, change the units in Job Settings to USA.
Example:
A bearing of N57 30W is entered as N57.30W.
The program then computes and displays the whole circle bearing as 302°30'00"

REVERSE BEARING
A bearing can be reversed 180 degrees by either:
1. Right-clicking on the bearing to be reversed and selecting "Reverse Brg".
2. Clicking on the bearing to be reversed and then selecting "Reverse Brg" from the top of the Parcel Properties dialogue box.
3. Clicking on the bearing to be reversed and then selecting "Functions" from the top of the Parcel Properties dialogue box and selecting "Reverse Brg".
4. Using the F6 shortcut key which can be used either directly after entering the bearing or at the completion of entering the entire line.
Example:
A bearing entered as 12.1510 (F6) will be displayed as 192°15'10"
A bearings entered as N57.30W (F6) will be displayed as 122°30'00"

ADD 90 DEGREES TO BEARING
90 Degrees can be added to any bearing by either:
1. Right-clicking on the line which requires 90 degrees to be added to the bearing and selecting "Add 90 Degrees to Bearing".
2. Clicking on the bearing to add 90 degrees to and then selecting "+ 90" from the top of the Parcel Properties dialogue box.
3. Clicking on the bearing to add 90 degrees to and then selecting "Functions" from the top of the Parcel Properties dialogue box and selecting "Add 90 Degrees to Bearing".
4. Clicking on the bearing to add 90 degrees to and then using the CTRL+9 shortcut .
Example:
Adding 90 degrees to a bearing of 12 15 10 would change the bearing to 102°15'10"

COPYING THE BEARING FROM ABOVE
If the bearing of the line you are about to enter is the same as the bearing of the line directly above, then you can copy the bearing rather than re-type it.
This can be done by either:
1. Right-clicking on the line where you require the bearing to be copied to, and selecting "Copy Bearing from Line Above".
2. Clicking on the line where you require the bearing to be copied to, selecting "Functions" from the top of the Parcel Properties dialogue box and selecting "Copy Bearing, Dist from Line Above".
3. Using the F7 shortcut key.
This option will copy the bearing and the distance from the line above. If the distance differs from the line you are entering, simply type over the distance that was copied with the new distance.

If the bearing of the line you are about to enter is 90 degrees different to the bearing of the line directly above, then you can copy the bearing from above and add 90 degrees to it.
This can be done by either:
1. Right-clicking on the line where you require the bearing to be copied to, and selecting "Copy Brg Above + 90 Degrees".
2. Clicking on the line where you require the bearing to be copied to, selcting "Functions" from the top of the Parcel Properties dialogue box and selecting "Copy Brg Above + 90 Degrees".
3. Using the F8 shortcut key.

If the bearing of the line you are about to enter is 180 degrees different to the bearing of the line 2 lines above, then you can copy the bearing from 2 lines above and add 180 degrees to it.
This can be done by either:
1. Right-clicking on the line where you require the bearing to be copied to, and selecting "Copy Brg 2 Lines Above +180 Degrees".
2. Clicking on the line where you require the bearing to be copied to, selcting "Functions" from the top of the Parcel Properties dialogue box and selecting "Copy Line 2 Lines Above + 180 Degrees".
3. Using the F11 shortcut key.
This option will copy the bearing and the distance from 2 lines above. If the distance differs from the line you are entering, simply type over the distance that was copied with the new distance.
